AIA Design Assistance Team (DAT) Toolkit
 

 

These tools are intended to aid AIA components and public and private organizations at both the state and local levels in the planning and implementation of their own Design Assistance Team (DAT) programs.

Building upon the American Institute of Architect’s forty years of experience with DAT programs such as the Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team (R/UDAT) and the Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT), the tools can be used to help plan and implement a successful DAT program.

Included are descriptions of typical DAT phases of development, logistical needs, frequently used supplies, and media outreach tactics. Sample agendas outline the basic format of DATs. Local Design Assistance Teams can work for the same reasons that the AIA’s national programs have been so successful- because citizens, community leaders and volunteer professionals embrace a process that bring them together to address community concerns and to form a shared vision of their community’s future.
