Diversity and Inclusion > AIA Diversity Toolkit for Components

The strategic plan of the American Institute of Architects includes a key strategy to “expand the diversity of the design professions to mirror the society we serve.” AIA state and local components will play a vital role in this significant task, from supporting members from underrepresented groups to community involvement and increasing awareness of the architecture profession and the built environment.
This toolkit is meant to serve as a resource to AIA components for developing programming that promotes greater diversity and inclusiveness among AIA members and the communities they serve. In this toolkit, you will find information about the AIA’s Diversity initiatives; best practices from AIA components and other professional organizations; a guide to planning and implementing a “Shadow an Architect” program; and links to professional affinity groups that share a common mission. Sample forms, some from current component programs, are also available for your reference.
If you would like to provide feedback on this toolkit, have suggestions for additional content, or have any questions, please email diversityandinclusion@aia.org.
