AIA Offers Complimentary Membership for Graduates

Become a member of the American Institute of Architects

The AIA national component offers recent graduates from an accredited school of architecture/program complimentary Associate AIA membership for up to 18 months.*

Eligible individuals should:

    • Contact your AIA local and state chapters to inquire about complimentary membership (The AIA is a three-tiered organization where members belonging at all levels, and this offer only applies to AIA national dues.);

    • Provide a copy of your diploma or transcript of a degree in architecture from an accredited school of architecture/program;

Licensure and Mentorship

Intern Development Program and Architect’s Registration Examination Resources

Move more rapidly through the process of getting licensed with the Institute’s Intern Development Program resources and the Architect’s Registration Examination resources. The AIA also offers numerous A.R.E. study workshops at conferences and online. Check the calendar.

AIA Continuing Education and IDP Experience Hours

Associate AIA members and interns may earn IDP supplemental experience hours by completing approved AIA continuing education courses. One (1) AIA Learning Unit (LU) is equal to one (1) IDP supplemental experience hour. When submitting to NCARB, learning units must be documented on the intern’s AIA transcript. Associate members can access their AIA transcript by signing in to CES Discovery at www.aia.org/education.

Mentorship through a series of AIA tools to help you be an effective mentor as well as to find one. These programs are a collaborative effort of the Institute’s national Mentoring Task Group and numerous contributors from within and outside the profession of architecture

* The AIA offers complimentary membership for 2012−2013 graduates of accredited schools of architecture. Provide a copy of your diploma with your membership application, and you receive free membership with the AIA for up to 18 months. Note that this promotion begins upon date of graduation and not your join date (e.g., a June 2012 graduate and a December 2012 graduate receive complimentary membership through December 31, 2013).

Your membership will be at the associate level until you receive full licensure and have the opportunity to become an architect member. Please note that the AIA is a three-tiered organization. Although your membership is at the national, state, and local levels, this promotional offer applies only to dues for the national component. Some local and state AIA chapters charge a nominal membership fee. For questions regarding your local chapter, call 800-242-3837, option 2.

**Offer is valid only for first-time new architect, associate, and international associate members who join; and lapsed members (five years or more) who rejoin the AIA between May 20, 2012, and June 22, 2013. Lapsed (four years or less), local, and national allied or affiliate members, and associate members who upgrade membership to architect are not eligible for this offer. This offer is not transferable and is a one-time offer. This offer is not related to any other local or state AIA component recruitment, dues, or assessment requirements. Membership dues must be paid in full to receive convention registration.
