Call for Volunteers: Peace Corps

Peace Corps seeks experienced Urban Planning, Construction, and Skilled Trades Professionals who are interested in serving others while experiencing the adventure of working overseas.

As part of its on-going effort to bring more skilled and knowledgeable Volunteers to the field, the Peace Corps is reaching out to professionals in the fields of Urban Planning and Design, Construction, and the Skilled Trades who are interested in new and challenging opportunities or considering alternatives to traditional retirement.

Volunteers with experience in planning and construction have a number of opportunities to help their local host community. They may teach vocational education in schools or training centers, or work with communities and local governments to facilitate the planning and construction of health centers, markets, or other projects while transferring skills to community members and young people. For example, Volunteers with a degree in Urban Planning may work with municipalities, community groups, or regional and national governments on infrastructure development and improvement, strategic planning, or community assessment projects.

Peace Corps Volunteers come from all walks of life and a variety of experiences. Some Volunteers have a bachelor's degree in drafting, industrial arts, urban or regional planning. Others possess a wealth of knowledge and practical experience, or are certified trade persons. Currently there is a need for Planning, Construction, and Skilled Trade Volunteers in Europe, South America, Africa, or the Pacific Islands.

By applying now, applicants could be serving overseas as early as this Spring. To learn more about Urban Planning, Construction, and Skilled Trade opportunities with the Peace Corps, call 800-424-8580 (option 1).

The Peace Corps is celebrating a 47-year legacy of service at home and abroad. Since 1961, over 190,000 Volunteers have helped promote a better understanding between Americans and the people of the 139 countries where Volunteers have served. Peace Corps Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit.
