Recap of Call with Congressman Mick Mulvaney (R-SC)

Congressman Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) called into AIA’s Connect with Congress series on July 30th and discussed the future of Congress, small business issues and his pick for Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential candidate. Congressman Mulvaney serves on the House Small Business Committee and the House Budget Committee. He has been a supporter of the construction industry because he is a small-business owner and a developer in South Carolina. On the call, he discussed how he supported the 1099 repeal and the repeal of the three percent withholding that passed into law last year. He also discussed how the current state of Congress has introduced a level of business uncertainty due to the failure of both the House and the Senate to get bills to the President’s desk. He is also a proponent of crowd sourcing funding for construction projects, which AIA is also going to discuss in September. Finally, he mentioned taxes and his concern that Congress does not understand how small businesses are structured. He has a strong interest in S-Corporations and has worked to help educate his fellow Representatives about how small businesses use S-Corporations in standard practice. The AIA has worked hard with members of Congress on this issue, and it is refreshing to hear from a member who understands that corporate vehicle.
