AIA Coalition Partners Host Policy Discussion at the Political Party Conventions
By Adam Melis, Director, Political Affairs & Engagement

AIA, as a member of the National Real Estate Organizations (NREO), hosted two policy forums at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Both forums provided an opportunity for members of congress to respond to the challenges faced by businesses who work not just in real estate, but in also in construction and development.

In Tampa, Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Congressman Mike Turner (R-OH) discussed the regulatory and budget problems that have hurt the industry and shared their thoughts on how to bring forward a recovery. In Charlotte, Congressman Joe Crowley (D-NY), Senator Mark Begich (D-AK), and Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) shared presented their views on the issues as well. Both panels discussed areas where they are working across the aisle and where opportunities are available to move forward. Both panels also shared with the audience that it was important for the members of the coalition stay involved and at the table.

Each policy forum takes an hour to view but is worth watching to get an idea as to where leaders in both parties find common ground on issues important to construction industry.
