Make Your Voice Heard in the 2014 Call for Issues

By Amanda Stratton, Manager, Grassroots & Advocacy Outreach

Last January the AIA announced its legislative agenda for the 113th Congress, Let’s Get America Building. Working together, we are making the case in Washington for policies that empower architects to design better buildings and communities.

However, our agenda doesn’t spring from Washington; it comes from the AIA members like you. Last fall we asked members in the AIA Call for Issues to tell us what policies the AIA should make its top priorities. Thousands of members responded.

Your feedback helps the AIA understand how decisions made by Congress and the White House impact you and your practice, from the taxes you pay to the rules and regulations that affect your work. Your feedback also helps us identify emerging trends that will allow AIA to be more proactive in its advocacy efforts.

That is why we need your help by November 8 – to make sure that when Congress debates policies that affect architects, they hear from architects.

The 2014 Call for Issues survey asks your views on important issues, but it will also let us know how the AIA prioritizes its agenda. Which issues do members care about so strongly that they are willing to take action? Is the AIA providing the resources you need to participate in the democratic process? Tell us what we are doing right and what we can do better!

You will have the additional opportunity to share your views on key public policy position statements. The AIA Board Advocacy Committee has put up three statements for review. Once the members' review of these statements is complete the AIA’s Board Advocacy committee will either accept or reject the changes and present them to the AIA Board for final approval. To review the current directory of all the Public Policy & Position Statements, click here.

Please take this short survey to share your views on the AIA’s policy agenda and tools for member engagement.

We need to hear from you by November 8 to make sure the AIA can analyze the results and plan for changes to better serve you as a member.

Last year over 3000 AIA members took the survey.  Our goal this year is to hear from at least 4000 members. Can you help us reach that goal?

Your views will not only help shape the message that the AIA takes to Capitol Hill next year, but will shape how the AIA provides you with the tools you need to be involved. However, if you don’t take the survey, your voice won’t be heard.

Don’t be left out – stand up for your profession and make sure your voice is heard!

Please take a moment to share your views with us.
