Sample Congressional Appointment Request

[Date]

The Honorable [legislator’s name]

[U.S. Capitol Office Address]

Dear Congressman/Congresswoman ________ [or Senator _________]:

I write to request an opportunity for our officers from The American Institute of Architects (AIA) to meet with you or a member of your staff on Thursday, March 20, 2014. (OPTIONAL: This meeting will include (NAME IF THEY LIVE IN THE DISTRICT) who is/are a constituent(s) of yours.) The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the AIA federal issues agenda and to introduce you to AIA members in your district.

We will be in Washington on that date to attend the AIA’s annual Grassroots Leadership and Legislative Conference. This event brings together the leaders of the AIA, which represent nearly 80,000 members who are part of an employment base of more than 200,000 U.S. jobs. The AIA represents this extensive constituency on a range of issues, including efficient design, regulatory reform, historic preservation, accessibility, procurement, school modernization and construction, urban renewal, building code adoption, transportation, and business, tax, and economic policies.

In addition to our critical role in the creation of the built environment, architects occupy important positions as business and community leaders. As such, we are interested in your perspectives on the many challenging issues facing the nation that you and your colleagues in Congress are dealing with.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this meeting request. I will contact your office soon to determine your availability. Should you or your staff have any questions in the meantime, I may be reached by phone (phone number) or e-mail (email address).

Sincerely,

[Name]
