Sample Congressional Appointment Request

The Honorable [legislator’s name]

[U.S. Capitol Office Address]

Dear Congressman/Congresswoman ________ [or Senator _________]:

I write to request an opportunity to meet with you or a member of your staff during the August recess. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the AIA federal issues agenda, design-build reform and the renewal of the 179D tax credit in particular, and to introduce you to AIA members in your district.

Along with me will be other members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), which consists of nearly 80,000 members who are part of an employment base of more than 200,000 U.S. jobs. The AIA represents this extensive constituency on a range of issues, including efficient design, regulatory reform, historic preservation, accessibility, procurement, school modernization and construction, urban renewal, building code adoption, transportation, and business, tax, and economic policies.

In addition to our critical role in the creation of the built environment, architects occupy important positions as business and community leaders. As such, we are interested in your perspectives on the many challenging issues facing the nation that you and your colleagues in Congress are dealing with.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this meeting request. I am flexible with the times the Congressman/Congresswoman/Senator has available, and I will contact your office soon to determine your availability. Should you or your staff have any questions in the meantime, I may be reached by phone (phone number) or e-mail (email address).
