2013 State Legislatures Convene
By Zachary Hart, Manager, State Relations

The 2013 state legislative session is in full swing, with all but nine state legislatures currently in session and the rest soon to follow. The National Conference of State Legislatures has produced a calendar of each state’s legislative session, which you can see here. While the budget outlook for many states is slightly better this year than in recent years, they are still under major pressure to deal with gaps in Medicaid, public pensions, and other large sources of spending, meaning that infrastructure and government building projects may again have a hard time getting funding. Perennial issues for the architectural professions such as interior design regulation, alternative project delivery, and QBS are again expected to surface in multiple states and will be a major focus of the AIA State and Local Relations team. Check the AIA Issue and Advocacy page often for updates from states around the country pertaining to these and other issues of interest to the profession.
