With the generous sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Building Technology, State and Community Programs, and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects program recognizes built projects that demonstrate the benefits of sustainable design. This can be any design approach that emphasizes high performance in the building and its systems, efficient use of resources, aesthetic appeal in context, and occupant comfort. The invited design jurists are Horst Berger, Sim Van Der Ryn, and Guy Battle. The general categories on which each entry will
be judged are: The principle behind which the AIA COTE stands is that vitality of the natural and built environments are inseparable; the best architecture integrates the built and natural environment in a way that improves and sustains our quality of life.
