A cardboard box arrives. A child’s imagination turns it into a boat, airplane, castle, dollhouse, rocket, or even a time machine. Clubhouse Mod is all of the above and none of the above. It’s a simple box created to inspire imagination.
Clubhouse Mod is a prefabricated modular system composed of inset panels and a light-weight aluminum frame. It creates a space within the environment—wind and temperature are felt, lightness and darkness are seen, the environment is experienced, a connection is made.
ClubHouse Mod is designed with environmental consideration. Choice of materials and efficient construction methods minimize the clubhouse’s ecological footprint. Aluminum is highly recycled, fundamentally light, and requires no paint, galvanization, powder coating, primers, or thinners.
Retired sailboat sails are used for the roof and louvers. Its lightness, translucency, and past experience create a one-of-a-kind interior space and exterior expression. The sails’ unique stitching and branding contribute to the personality of the clubhouse. The panels can be any number of materials, including sustainable wood, rope, woven branches, and sailcloth.
Jury Comments
“Wonderfully creative; children operate the environment. Sails add a soft element in an otherwise angular design. Nicely/cleanly detailed and illustrated.”
“Includes the use of the sailboat sails, wood, and recyclable material in a nice modular design.”
“Wonderful use of recycled sailcloth. The program of allowing the kid to manipulate the environment is wonderful and well considered. Great form dynamics.”
