The Architect of the Capitol Should be an Architect

Blumenauer (OR) and Phil English (PA) in support of a licensed
professional architect as the next Architect of the
Capitol
Congress is currently in the process of
selecting the next Architect of the Capitol. The Architect of the
Capitol is responsible for the operation, maintenance, development
and preservation of the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, the
Supreme Court and the numerous other buildings that make up the
Capitol Complex. The AIA believes that only a licensed,
professional architect has the necessary skills, education, and
training to balance these responsibilities in a way to ensure the
safety, security, and productivity of the occupants of these
national landmarks.
We have composed a petition urging Members of Congress to select a
licensed, professional architect as the next
Architect of the Capitol. We understand that Congress will be
making this decision within the next month. Therefore, please join
us NOW in sending the message to Congress that
only a licensed, professional architect should be responsible for
maintaining, operating, and updating the most symbolically
important buildings to our Nation and democracy.
