Housing

Housing is a critical component of all livable communities. Architects recognize the importance of good housing as a necessity of life, a sanctuary for the human spirit, and a valuable natural resource. Blighted neighborhoods, shortages of decent affordable housing, and a lack of adequate shelter for the homeless remain national problems, and architects are committed to correcting these conditions.

Blueprint for America initiatives have generated creative new approaches to affordable housing and shelter for the homeless. One element common of these initiatives is collaboration among community leaders; public officials; architects; and experts in finance, building codes, development, and housing. Collaboration is key to ensuring that the vision and plan for a project resonates with the needs and aspirations of individual communities.
