Many of you have asked how to become more involved in the
Committee for Architecture in Education. In addition to attending
our two annual conferences, we hope you'll join us in making CAE a
learning community that's increasingly your first-stop reference
for best practices in school design. This is a great way to get to
know colleagues from around the country and share insights and
resources in a noncompetitive environment. Below you'll find some
of the pathways for further involvement.
Conference Planning Committees
If you enjoy staying up-to-date on educational and cultural trends
as well as exemplary learning environments, then perhaps you'd
enjoy sharing those insights by helping us design meaningful
conference programs. Based upon the theme established by the
Leadership Group, the committee selects, organizes, and facilitates
the program, including keynotes, seminars, site tours,
entertainment, and other activities. For information on the 2008
CAE fall conference, contact James LaPosta Jr., AIA, 2008 chair of
the CAE Leadership Group, jlaposta@jcj.com.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee keeps members informed about
CAE activities, events, and resources through the development of
high-quality content for the committee's Web site and four
newsletters each year. If you have ideas about significant events,
useful resources, or exemplary projects our members should know
about, contact John M. Weekes, 2007 communications chair, jmw@dowa.com.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee will represent each region of
the country and act as liaisons to members in their regions. They
will help us stay in touch with the membership, ensuring that we
address their needs. In addition, they will help plan regional
dinner gatherings or other events associated with the CAE
conferences that build connections between participants. If you are
interested in representing your region or are already involved in a
local or state group and would like to help us stay in touch,
contact James LaPosta Jr., AIA, 2007 membership chair, at jlaposta@jcj.com.
Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships
Committee
The Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships Committee will work to
raise client and public awareness of the value of high-quality
planning and design by partnering with allied organizations to
build tools and channels for advocacy. We are particularly looking
for members who are federal, state, or local politicians or policy
makers or those who have active relationships with organizations
such as CEFPI, SCUP, NSBA, AASA, or others. Activities may include
identifying opportunities for cooperation; developing tools for
advocacy and shared initiatives; and tracking and reporting on
legislation, construction funding, and other issues of interest to
CAE members. If you can help with this, contact Timothy Dufault,
AIA, 2007 Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships Chair, tdufault@cuningham.com.
Design Awards Committee
The Design Awards Committee will organize and conduct a
juried design awards program for innovative learning environments
to recognize and disseminate exemplary projects and best practices
from around the nation. The committee will recommend jury members,
establish a Web-based design review process, and coordinate a jury
gathering to develop consensus on the projects to receive awards.
Subsequent to the jury process, the committee will prepare a
project awards presentation that includes a focus on the planning
and design trends observed from the entire group of submissions. If
you are interested, please contact the leadership group, cae@aia.org.
Sponsorship Committee
Members of the Sponsorship Committee will help us expand the
financial resources available to CAE by identifying contacts for
potential sponsorships and in-kind contributions. If you know of
individuals or organizations that would be a good fit for
supporting this work, contact James LaPosta Jr., AIA, 2007
sponsorship chair, jlaposta@jcj.com.
