Academy of Architecture for Justice Singles Out 28
Projects for Justice Facilities Review
Six Projects Cited for Excellence
The AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice (AAJ) selected 28
projects in March for publication in the 2008 Justice Facilities
Review, six of which received citations for architectural and
design excellence. The projects and their architects will be
published in September 2008 and become part of a traveling exhibit
that will tour the country throughout the year.
The Justice Facilities Review offers the profession an indicator of
proven strategies and the latest trends in the design and
construction of justice facilities in the U.S. The jury chooses
projects for publication that demonstrate quality of form,
functionality, and current architectural responses to complex
justice design issues.
The jury consisted of representatives from the justice,
architecture, and government sectors who reviewed newly constructed
facilities that ranged from courthouses to forensic laboratories to
maximum security prisons. The jury included: Michael A. Moxam, OAA,
MAA, FRAIC, Assoc. AIA of Stantec Architecture Ltd. in Toronto;
David Clusiau, OAA, MRAIC, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP., of NORR Ltd. in
Toronto; Jeff Sheppard AIA of Roth + Sheppard Architects in Denver;
Ed Spooner, AIA, Vice President, Design Services Geo Group in Coral
Gables, Florida; James Bradley, Chief of Police, White Plains, New
York; Jude Del Preore, Trial Court Administrator, Burlington Co.
NJ; Sheriff Beth Arthur, of Arlington County, Virginia.
