Intern Transcripts Information

Participants in NCARB’S Intern Development Program (IDP) can receive Supplemental Experience from attending AIA approved courses. One (1) AIA Learning Unit is equal to one (1) IDP elective hour. Anywhere you see the AIA Continuing Education logo you can get IDP credit! NCARB requires that AIA approved continuing education courses be submitted to them via an AIA Transcript, as proof that AIA has approved the coursework.

You can also receive Supplemental Experience for completing activities in the Emerging Professionals Companion (EPC) for core and elective hours. The temporary AIA number you receive when you request an Intern Transcript allows you to track EPC activities via your NCARB record as well.

How do I get started?

How do I track/gain AIA learning units (LUs)?

Attend an AIA approved course, event, or complete a self-designed activity. AIA Components and AIA CES registered providers sponsor continuing education events. When you attend an event, follow the AIA registered architects lead by signing in with your name and temporary AIA number. The event provider is responsible for submitting your information to AIA, which maintains continuing education records. Following course completion, the provider will report your attendance using the temporary AIA number that you used to sign in. Course providers are given ten (10) days from the date of the course to report all attendance.

If the activity was performed on your own, such as completing the questions for a continuing education article from Architect Magazine, then you are responsible for submitting a self-report form online to the AIA with your temporary AIA number.

How do I submit AIA Continuing Education learning units (LUs) for IDP Supplemental Experience hours?

Download your AIA transcript. You can download a copy of your AIA transcript by logging into the AIA CES Discovery website at any time.

Report your hours in the NCARB Online Reporting System. Report your work through the Online Reporting System by adding new supplemental experience the "Experience Reports" tab. A PDF of your AIA transcript documenting completion of AIA-approved courses must be uploaded to the Online Reporting System at that time.

My temporary AIA number has expired – what do I do?

The AIA transcript is an AIA member benefit that is offered as a limited free resource to Intern Development Program participants. Unfortunately, the AIA is unable to offer extensions on temporary AIA numbers.

If you have completed IDP you are not eligible to receive an extension. Please consider becoming a member of AIA to receive this and many other member benefits. Join AIA.
