About the CBSP

The Center for Building Science and Performance (CBSP) encompasses a wide range of issues from code compliance to sustainability, from energy conservation to post-occupancy evaluations, building science and many more.

CBSP promotes the application of building science principles to the design and construction of buildings. The advisory group includes individuals who have rich educational and experiential involvement with building science, analysis of thermal envelope issues, production of details and guidelines to support these activities, and extensive professional connections to experts in this field. Alliances have been formed with other recognized organizations to provide the knowledge base necessary for training, educational materials, and opportunities for AIA members. CBSP is enthusiastic about sharing this knowledge with architects across the country to provide a tool to facilitate good, healthy design and a clearer understanding of building science basics.

CBSP is also a source of knowledge and expertise required for disaster assessment. This knowledge community has individuals qualified in code, standards, forensics, design and planning methods relative to the evaluation and description of lessons learned from the impact of natural disasters on building performance.
