Performance
Hosted by the AIA Center for Building Science and Performance
(AIA CBSP)
March 7, 2008
AIA Boardroom
Washington, DC
Lessons in Disaster Resilience Through Planning and Building
Performance from national experts. This Symposium focused on
natural disasters and provided information and networking
opportunities to increase success in case of a disaster or
emergency. Wwe now invite you to share in the knowledge
provided in the proceedings herein.
How can architects participate in post disaster
assistance?
How can architects help their clients prior to a disaster
and after a disaster?
How are AIA components better able to handle a disaster on a
state level?
How do operations get up and running immediately after a
disaster?
Learn about rebuilding earthquake resistant structures in
resource-poor areas.
Learn about Disaster Performance Assessments.
Learn about an affordable cottage that has been engineered to
withstand hurricane force winds, while respecting the Gulf
Coasts architectural traditions. The designer of this cottage
won the Cooper-Hewitt Peoples Design Award.
Gain knowledge about FEMAs recently released design guidance
tool for mitigating multi-hazard events. This multi-hazard design
approach will reduce physical damage to structural and
nonstructural components of buildings and related infrastructure
and reduce resultant casualties during natural and manmade
disasters.
Learn about New Orleans's unified recovery and rebuilding plan and
