Component Resources (coming soon)
Sustainable design. Livable
communities. Affordable housing. Health care reform.
For 150 years the AIA and its members have advocated for policies
and programs that benefit the built environment and the practice of
architecture. This coming election year is no different as the AIA
launches a positive, proactive issues agenda that speaks to the
values all architects hold dear.
The 2008 election will be one of the most hotly contested in years.
It marks the first time in nearly a century that neither a sitting
president nor vice president is running. And with Democrats holding
a narrow 51-49 majority in the U.S. Senate, the stakes
in November are extremely high. This creates a unique
opportunity for the AIA and its 83,500 members to play an active
role in advocating for the profession at the national level and
raise the profile of our issues in the coming debate.
DesignVote08 is a nonpartisan program to get architects and
their supporters front and center in the 2008 campaign. Supporting
the AIA's strategic goal of promoting citizen architects and civic
engagement, and coordinating with AIA components at the national,
state, and local levels, DesignVote08 will empower AIA members
to
-
Place the AIA's public policies and issues before the presidential candidates and political parties
-
Organize and cosponsor candidate forums in their home states
-
Raise the AIA's visibility at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions
-
Volunteer for presidential and Senate campaigns
. . . and more. This is your chance to help shape the election and the national agenda on the built environment for years to come.
