Juvenile Services Center Design
Challenges and Opportunities (PDF)
The Juvenile Services Center, completed in 1981, combines a wide
range of services for troubled youth, such as probation offices,
counseling facilities, juvenile court, detention, and shelter care
(temporary housing for runaway or abused and neglected children).
The building design reflects treatment goals, providing a
"homelike" (or less institutional) interior enviroment while
meeting security requirements; yet, it is constructed principally
of wood components (Type V, 1-hour).
