The Teachers'
Seminar at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan is an intensive
four-day program provided by the Association of Collegiate Schools
of Architecture (ACSA) and The American Institute of Architects
(AIA). A collaborative effort of the two organizations to address
issues of importance to the profession, recent topics have included
sustainability and the architecture of engagement. This year's
topic was the case study in architecture. The case study was
explored as a teaching model, a vehicle for scholarship, and as a
means to build a body of knowledge for the future of the
profession.
Co-chaired by
Marvin Malecha, FAIA, Laura Lee, FAIA and Richard Green, FAIA with
Harrison Fraker, FAIA, participants joined one of two workshop
tracks: professional practice study or scholarship and research.
The results of the workshops were brought together in a series of
joint sessions. Please see the seminar program and proceedings
below for details. In addition, see In Any Case, an article about the
seminar by Harrison Fraker, published in the October 2004 issue of
ACSA News.
