Course Reviewer’s Corner

An Update on the 2013 Course Submission Process

By Jean Feroldi, Assoc. AIA
Manager, CES Communications and Review

Beginning in January, there will be a few minor changes to the course review process due to the decision by the Board to sunset the sustainable design credit requirement. For more information on the decision, please reference William Murillo’s Latest Continuing Education Update.

In 2013, when you are submitting a course for review, Sustainable Design (SD) will no longer be a credit designation option. If you are submitting a course on sustainability or high performance design, please select the HSW credit designation as sustainable design courses fall under the HSW category. All courses previously submitted under the SD designation will now be listed as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW). You do not need to make any changes to courses submitted before January 2013 as they will changed automatically in the CES Discovery system.

That said, we encourage our Providers to continue to develop courses on sustainable design topics as AIA members are always interested in resources and information about environmentally-friendly and sustainable building practices.

If you have any questions or comments about this change in the continuing education requirement or the course review proce please do not hesitate to contact me at jeanferoldi@aia.org. I would be happy to speak with you about any of your concerns regarding the course review process. Thank you for being patient with the AIA CES team as we continue to refine our continuing education program.
