The OAA Continuing Education Program recognizes that architects have always been committed to life-long learning and continuous improvement in order to best serve the needs of their clients and the general public. The program supports this commitment by establishing a formal, structured framework for continuing professional learning, helping to assure that a selection of appropriate learning opportunities will be available to Ontario architects.
The program is comprised of two components:
CORE: Courses/activities that are related to professional practice, and fall under one of the CORE topics approved by Council for Cycle 5 (formerly called OAA-Directed).
Self-Directed: Related to activities chosen individually by architects which are self-reported.
OAA CORE Program Description
CORE learning provides a fundamental level of knowledge relevant to the practice of architecture and that address current and emerging needs that are essential to maintain the confidence of clients, the government and to serve and protect the public interest. Architects can fulfill their CORE learning requirements by taking courses/activities that have been pre-approved as CORE by OAA Accredited Providers or through courses offered by Pre-Approved CORE Providers. OAA Self-Directed Points Program Description
Self-Directed learning are courses/activities that members choose on their own that are related to their professional practice which allows architects to develop areas of special expertise, and to learn more about subjects of professional interest. OAA approval of Self-Directed learning is not required, however choices must relate to business or architecture. Architects must self-report their learning to the OAA through the OAA Web site. The OAA does not undertake to accredit or pre-approve programs offered by public groups or companies as Self-Directed learning, and does not permit the use the OAA name or logo without permission. It is the responsibility of the individual architect to determine the appropriateness of a program and its applicability as Self-Directed learning.
