Insights into Continuing Education on the Whole Building Design Guide

By Stephanie Vierra, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP BD+C and Richard Paradis, PE, BSCP, Bd. Cert. NCE

In September, AIA CES invited Richard Paradis of the National Institute of Building Sciences to share his experiences as a Provider with the Continuing Education System. We were looking for an alternative medium to capture Provider best practices and recording a podcast proved to be a good place to start. This month, we are featuring a follow-up article to the Developing Distance Education for Architects podcast which will explore new content and continuing education courses produced by NIBS.

What is the Whole Building Design Guide?

A unique web portal, the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) is intended to promote high-performance design through technical criteria, design guidance, case studies, and continuing education, and many other sources of information.

How do we Increase the Value of your Continuing Education Program?

By Ramiro Solórzano, Assoc. AIA
Manager, CES Provider Audits

Maintaining the quality of education is a direct way of increasing the value of your continuing education program. While working with all our Providers, I have the pleasure of being an active participant in upholding the quality of education we offer to our members. We are constantly looking at how we bring value and quality of education to our members.

Opportunities to Promote your Courses!

    Jonthan Watson and Scott Ward

In a 2012 survey of AIA Continuing Education Providers, over 40% indicated a desire for channels to promote and advertise their courses.  Opportunities are available - and start at just $150 per month - including ad positions on AIA.org (over 750,000 quarterly visitors); AIArchitect (the bi-weekly e-newsletter of the AIA, delivered directly to over 90,000) and AIA Knowledge Community web sites (groups representing key vertical markets within the profession).  To learn more, contact:
