Continuing Education Marketing Hints for Unstaffed Local AIA Components

    1. Identify members' needs for topics.

    2. Use the state component newsletter to announce courses, if possible.

    3. Email all local members to notify them of upcoming courses.

    4. Select an interesting venue and price accordingly; pay the presenters.  Invite non-members, and offer a member discount.

    5. Use a sponsor for an expensive event.  You may find sponsors through contractors and the construction industry.

    6. Send an email reminder a day before the event.

    7. Recognize that non-members will talk with members for information on courses.

    8. Recognize that when non-members attended they could become members.

    9. Due to cost of Associate membership it's a good idea for emerging professionals to join.

    10. If possible, ask the state licensing board for names of all registered architects within your zip code, and email them about course offerings.

    11. Recognize that some unstaffed local components offer 2-3 all day programs a year, and some offer a couple lunch and learns a month.

    12. The goal of the marketing message should be focused on state licensing.  If the state does not require continuing education, then the goal is fulfilling AIA continuing education requirement.

    13. Recognize that Early Reminder List is a tool you can use to notify members of upcoming courses.  All of those members need courses to fulfill their continuing education requirements.  It can be exported to excel and used as in mass email merges.

    14. If a local component is not a registered provider the state component has access to an Early Reminder List that lists all members within the state who have not completed their continuing education requirement.

    15. When sending messages emphasize what can be used right then.  Focus on projects that members are on so that the information will be useful to them.

    16. Invite the Presidents of the local AIAS to the meetings.  Those students may be more interested in the AIA as registered architects.
