The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administering and enforcing some of our nation’s most comprehensive labor laws, including: the minimum wage, overtime, and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act (MSPA); worker protections provided in several temporary visa programs; and the prevailing wage requirements of the Davis-Bacon Act (DBA) and the Service Contract Act (SCA).

The Intern Development Program (IDP)
Find Your IDP Coordinator
Information on IDP State, Educator, and Auxiliary Coordinators. These individuals are responsible for the disemination of up-to-date information on IDP. Sign your firm's IDP go-to person up to be an Auxiliary Coordinator.

IDP Outstanding Firm Awards
Since 1991, the AIA has recognized firms from across the country who actively embrace the Intern Development Program and demonstrate their commitment by making the path to licensure an integral part of the firm’s culture through the IDP Outstanding Firm Awards program. In 2008, the program is expanded to recognize IDP Firms that meet twelve essential criteria in the categories of Mentoring, Supervising, Training Opportunities, Commitment to IDP, and ARE Support. The IDP Outstanding Firm Award will be reserved for firms who meet the essential criteria and demonstrate excellence in at least three of these categories.

Research and Initiatives
2005 Internship & Career Survey
In 2005, the AIA National Associates Committee, ArchVoices and NCARB launched the second Internship & Career Survey, an effort to document the recent history and present state of architectural internship and registration. Results from the 2007 survey will be posted in January of 2008.

AIA Board Knowledge Committee 2007 Research Summit
This spring the American Institute of Architects convened a group of national leaders from education and practice to share views on architectural research. The aim was to identify emerging research agendas in architecture and elevate the importance of research in the profession.

AIA Case Studies Initiative
The Case Study Initiative is primarily focused on exposing students to practice but is also educational for interns, associates, principals, and clients.

AIA Practice Academy Initiative
The Practice Academy is a partnership among the AIA, the architectural academy, and architecture firms to provide a framework for a rigorous internship for students and architectural interns.

American Architectural Foundation (AAF)
AAF educates individuals and communities about the power of architecture to transform lives and improve the places where we live, learn, work, and play. Through our outreach programs, grants, scholarships and educational resources, AAF inspires people to become thoughtful and engaged stewards of the built environment.
