This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), America’s first federal historic preservation program. The HABS mission is to create a public archive of America’s architectural heritage, consisting of measured drawings, historical reports and large-format black-and-white photographs.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA), The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) of the National Park Service, and The Athenaeum of Philadelphia annually recognize the best measured drawings students prepare to standards of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) with the Charles E. Peterson Prize.

The AIA Historic Resources Committee (HRC) and the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum invite all to join the celebration of the 2008 Charles E. Peterson Prize winners on November 14, 2008, at the Interior Museum, 1849 C Street, NW, one block south of the AIA national headquarters. The ceremony begins at 5:30pm, directly following the HABS Symposium. Limited transportation from the symposium will be provided at 4:30pm. The event is free and open to the public; no tickets or reservations are needed.  *The Indian Craft Shop at the Interior Museum will be open during the reception.*

Questions regarding this event may be directed to AIA staff member, Kathleen Simpson.

Please visit the National Park Service's website for the more information on Charles E. Peterson Prize Program and its 2008 winners.
