Membership Information
The National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers is a state-based historic preservation trade association, not a membership organization.

Brief Summary of the Organization and Its Mission
The NCSHPO is the association of the gubernatorially appointed officials who carry out the National Historic Preservation Act for the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Secretary of the Interior. The mission is to facilitate communication among the State Historic Preservation Officers and to represent them nationally with the administration, Congress, the private preservation organizations, and industry.

SHPOs interact with architects most often on rehabilitation plans for which the owner is seeking a federal investment tax credit.

Initiatives in the Past Year Illustrating the Focus and Direction of the Organization
1. Reworking of the Secretary’s Standards for Rehabilitation and the investment tax credit review process with the National Park System Advisory Board.
2. Participation in the administration’s and First Lady’s Preserve America Summit

Preservation Issues that are of Particular Concern to Your Organization
1. Inadequate financial support to carry out the Nation’s preservation program from the National Park Service through the federal budget requests for withdrawals from the Historic Preservation Fund.
2. Improvements in the federal leadership to carry out the National Historic Preservation Act.

Preservation Trends/Opportunities that Your Organization Views as Advancements or Potential Advancements in the Field of Historic Preservation at Large and/or Advancements in Historic Preservation within Your Organization
