Diversity Recognition Program
This program celebrates and invites the contributions of AIA members toward the goal of a more diverse profession. Up to twelve submissions will be selected annually to be recognized as Diversity Best Practices. All individuals submitting a proposal must sign the waiver/release form. Electronic submissions are preferred and should be sent to diversity@aia.org.

Upjohn Research Initiative Call for Submissions - deadline September 1, 2008
AIA Research Initiatives include the Upjohn Research Initiative, which matches base funds for applied research projects that advance professional practice, and the RFP Research Program, in which the AIA awards up to 10 grants of $7,000 each for selected projects. This grant qualifies recipients to have their findings and outcomes published both electronically in the AIA Soloso online database and in a nationally distributed publication: The American Institute of Architects Report on University Research. 2008 recipients of this grant include the Design for Aging Knowledge Community and Constance Bodurow, Assoc. AIA. of the Regional and Urban Design Committee Knowledge Community.

Institute Honor Awards Nominations
The Institute Honor Awards program recognizes achievements in a broad range of architectural activities which elevate the general quality of architecture practice, establish a standard of excellence against which all architects can measure performance, and inform the public of the breadth and value of architecture practice. The HRC encourages submissions in historic preservation in the categories of Architecture, Interior, Regional & Urban Design and the Twenty-five Year Award. Please see the Web site for deadlines.

Construction History Society of America, Inc
The Construction History Society was formed in 1982 and is based in the United Kingdom. The Society publishes annually “Construction History”, a scholarly journal and the leading international publication in its field that is highly respected worldwide. In addition periodic newsletters are sent to the membership with illustrated articles, news items and reviews of events, books and periodicals.  With interest in construction history growing in the United States an organizing committee was formed in May 2007. Since then an American Branch has been incorporated, a newsletter launched and an inaugural event planned for November 2008. The organizing effort has been supported by the College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The AIA Historic Resources Committee (HRC) has compiled a reading list based on the recommendations of HRC members around the country. We hope to continuously expand the list with additional titles. If you know of a book that should be on the list, we encourage you to send your recommendation to Raymond Plumey, FAIA.
