Association of Collegiate Schools of
Architecture (ACSA)
The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture is a
nonprofit, membership association founded in 1912 to advance the
quality of architectural education. ACSA, unique in its
representative role for schools of architecture, provides a forum
for ideas on the leading edge of architectural thought.
American Institute of Architecture Students
(AIAS)
The American Institute of Architecture Students is an independent,
non-profit student-run organization. Their mission provides four
specific charges: to promote excellence in architecture education,
training and practice; to foster an appreciation of architecture
and related disciplines; to enrich communities in a spirit of
collaboration; and to organize students and combine their efforts
to advance the art and science of architecture,
National Architectural Accrediting Board
(NAAB)
The National Architectural Accrediting Board is the sole agency
authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in
architecture. The curriculum of a NAAB-accredited program includes
general studies, professional studies, and electives, which
together comprise a liberal education in architecture. The
curriculum ensures that graduates will be technically competent,
critical thinkers who are capable of defining multiple career paths
within a changing societal context.
National Council of Architectural Registration Boards
(NCARB)
NCARB members are the architectural registration boards of the 50
states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories (Guam,
the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands).
Each registration board has state-appointed public and professional
members as well as an administrator. Their mission is: to work
together as a council of member boards to safeguard the health,
safety, and welfare of the public; and, to assist member boards in
carrying out their duties.
National Associates Committee (NAC)
Formed in October 2000, the National Associates Committee was a
natural evolution of the Intern/Associate Committee, originally
formed in 1993. Today, the NAC is a representative body of Regional
Associates Directors (RAD), one from each of the 18 AIA regions.
Their charge is to represent Associates, both mainstream and
alternative, providing information and leadership to every
regional, state and local component. At the center of this is a
desire to integrate the growing Associates community of the
profession into a strong voice within the Institute.
Young Architects Forum (YAF)
The Young Architects Forum, a program of The American Institute of
Architects and the College of Fellows, is organized to address
issues of particular importance to recently licensed architects
(within 10 years or less after licensure). In 1991, a national YAF
Advisory Committee was formed to encourage the development of
national and regional programs of interest to young architects and
the creation of YAF groups within local chapters. Throughout its
history, the YAF has had three overriding goals: mentorship,
leadership and fellowship.
Education/Practice/Industry Connection
(EPIC)
EPIC, is a partnership of the academy, the design professions, and
industry, working in cooperation to provide quality professional
education. This program is designed to advance architectural
education and architectural continuing education through
cooperative course design, shared research, and resources.
