I didn’t expect to be communicating with you again in this role. Content in my semiretirement, I passed the baton at the end of last year to Gregory Clement, FAIA, who was eager to take on the job and to begin working with the Offshore Outsourcing Best Practices Work Group. Read more.

Outsourcing Architectural Services
In 2006–2007, the AIA collaborated with David del Villar, a doctoral student at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, as he researched the implications of the outsourcing of architectural services. del Villar has made his research available to AIA members, through a white paper and his PowerPoint presentation at the spring conference.

The Export of Professional Design Services by Foreign Architecture Firms: A View of Initiatives Overseas
In this issue of the International eNewsletter, we publish the third of four articles by Thomas Vonier, FAIA. Vonier is an International Committee member of long standing. He is the founding president of the AIA Continental Europe component (1994–1996), and served as the AIA representative to the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) for six years.

NCARB International Update 2007
For several decades, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has engaged in international negotiations to facilitate the mobility of U.S. architects and increase international recognition of architectural credentials. NCARB has provided a paper that explains the evolution of these international agreements and reports on the status of individual agreements. Read the full article.

Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building
The Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building is unique among international awards programs for honoring the client's role in the design process. The prize recognizes the contribution of the client's vision, openness, flexibility, and commitment to good design. After just six editions, the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building has already become one of the most important architectural awards in the world. The seventh edition (2007/2008) of this award was launched in the July edition of l’ARCA. The prize is officially presented by ALA Assoarchitetti and the international review l’ARCA, with AIA San Francisco's International Committee and AIA National among the official sponsors. Registration opens September 2007.  U.S. architects and their clients are urged to participate.

Turin 2008: Call For Papers
The 23rd international Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA) will take place in Turin, Italy, from 29 June to 3 July 2008, on the overall theme, Transmitting Architecture. For more information see the conference Web page.
