New AIA/Hanley Wood Integrated Media Partnership
Advancing the Architecture Profession

From the AIA President

I am pleased to share the exciting news that the AIA and Hanley Wood reached agreement on a five-year integrated media partnership that, I am confident, will bring many benefits, especially in expanding the reach and impact of the knowledge and expertise you contribute to the profession.

Although I will share some of the key benefits of the agreement, which becomes effective January 1, 2011, click on this link to read the news release.

First, I want to assure you that your subscription to Architectural Record, the current magazine of the AIA, will continue through the end of the year. The AIA recognizes that our current partners provide AIA members and the profession with valued services and will continue to work closely with them to fulfill the terms of its contracts and maintain a constructive dialogue to explore future opportunities to work together.

Over the past few months, the AIA Executive Committee and Board, staff, and others worked with senior executives from Hanley Wood to craft an agreement that will advance the mission of the AIA and showcase design and design excellence wherever it is evident. One important element of the new agreement is that you will receive four Hanley Wood publications as a benefit of AIA membership. Hanley Wood's ARCHITECT becomes the official magazine of the AIA, but members will also receive digital editions of residential architect, EcoHome, and Eco-Structure, including full access to their respective Web sites.

The editorial independence of these publications will ensure you receive relevant, objective information for your career and practice. Additionally, the expanded member access to Hanley Wood's numerous print, online, and digital media resources will create more opportunities to secure coverage of your work.

This agreement is unprecedented in its proposed use of digital media, and will integrate AIA member knowledge and thought leadership through Hanley Wood magazines, Web sites, events, the AIA National Convention, joint research initiatives, and support for AIA components. In addition to the tangible benefits outlined in the agreement, I am most pleased by the spirit of collaboration and innovation that fueled the discussions. Working together, the AIA and Hanley Wood will develop additional opportunities to increase the relevance of the contributions of the Institute and its members.

Our partnership with Hanley Wood is the result of a shared commitment to increasing the value that you receive from your professional society. Over the course of the next five years, let us all work together for a stronger, more relevant, and essential AIA. You can be confident that our partners at Hanley Wood will be working right along with us.

Sincerely,

George H. Miller, FAIA
President
