In 2003, the National Associates Committee, in conjunction with
ArchVoices, launched the 2003 Internship and Career Survey. The NAC
Survey Task Force championed this initiative and is committed to
producing a findings document to be published online later this
year. The groups ongoing goals are to develop and implement a
survey to collect and evaluate information about interns and
alternative career professionals, a process which will be
reevaluated every two to three years.
In 2005, the AIA National Associates Committee, ArchVoices and
NCARB launched the second Internship & Career Survey, an effort
to document the recent history and present state of architectural
internship and registration. The information will be used
independently as well as in comparison studies with the 2003
Internship & Career Survey to set the tone for discussion on
internship within the AIA.
Data was collected via the internet between March 30 and April 15,
2005. A total of 9,929 qualified and usable responses were received
from the sample of 46,831.
In 2007, the Internship and Career Survey was commissioned
jointly by the AIA National Associates Committee and NCARB.
Building on a similar effort in 2003 and 2005, the survey sought to
shed light on issues that the architecture profession had been
struggling to define, informing the national discourse on improving
architectural internship. The survey was conducted by Readex
Research, an independent research company.
Data was collected via the Internet between November 7 and November
26, 2007. A total of 8,598 qualified and usable responses were
received from the sample of 36,343.
