AIA New Jersey is creatively pursuing ways to reach out and
provide resources for new and existing associate members. The
current initiatives for the region include:
New Associate Member Welcome
Packet
AIA New Jerseys (AIANJ) Emerging Professionals Committee has
developed a Welcome Packet that will be sent to all new
Associate members. The packet will be loaded onto a USB drive
emblazoned with the AIA logo. Some of the items that will be sent
include a welcome letter from the Regional Associate Director and
Regional IDP Coordinator, a listing of AIANJ committees and board
members, IDP/ARE information, as well as an option to receive an
embossed membership certificate.
AIANJ Emerging Professionals Web Page
AIA New Jerseys Emerging Professionals Committee, in
conjunction with AIANJs Communications Committee, has
developed an emerging professionals webpage that is in the final
testing stages and should be launched in the upcoming months. The
purpose of the page is to give associates and young architects
one-stop shopping for issues pertaining to them,
especially the new and hopefully ever expanding
mentor/protégé database.
IDP/ARE Seminar
AIA New Jerseys Emerging Professionals Committee, in
conjunction with New Jersey Institute of Technologys Career
Center, hosted an IDP/ARE seminar for students and recent graduates
to discuss the ins and outs of the IDP process, specific to New
Jersey, as well as the upcoming changes to the ARE.
IDP/ARE Concurrence
As Regional Associate Director, I will be meeting with AIANJs
Executive Committee to discuss NCARBs vote in favor of
allowing graduates to begin taking the ARE once they have
established an IDP record. The goal of the meeting is to develop a
strategy of how to best bring out this change to the statutes of
New Jersey.
ARE Review Seminar
AIA Central New Jersey hosted an ARE review seminar in early April.
The seminar was an all day event which reviewed the General
Structures and Lateral Forces sections of the exam.
Live the Box
AIA Newark & Suburban Architects Emerging Professionals
Committee is sponsoring a competition titled, Live the
Box. The idea is to reuse the shipping containers that are
piling up by the thousands as the main component in developing a
multi-family mixed-use building set in an urban environment. For
more information and updates, please check their website at www.aians.org.
