In this podcast, two of our most knowledgeable professionals on the construction industry outlook based on the latest economic indicators will discuss whether brighter days might be on the way—and, if so, when.
Kermit Baker, PhD, Hon. AIA, who, as AIA chief economist, has for the past 13 years overseen the AIA Architecture Billings Index, a nationwide monthly poll of architecture firms that gauges the rise and fall of billings and client inquiries. He also directs the biannual AIA Construction Consensus Forecast. In a separate capacity, he is a senior research fellow at Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, where he serves as project director of the Remodeling Futures Program.
Also joining this discussion is Robert A. Murray, vice president for economic affairs at McGraw-Hill Construction and author of the widely circulated McGraw-Hill Construction Outlook. He also coordinates the company’s five-year forecast product, the Construction Market Forecasting Service, which offers detailed projections of construction activity for the U.S and nine major regions. As McGraw-Hill’s chief economic spokesperson, he serves as anchorman of the company’s prestigious Construction Industry Outlook Conference each October in Washington, D.C.
