In this podcast, we’ll talk about the AIA 2030 Commitment. The AIA 2030 Commitment is a voluntary national program for AIA member firms and other entities working in the built environment. It asks these organizations to make a pledge, develop action plans, and implement steps to achieve the goal of carbon-neutral buildings by the year 2030.
Greg Mella AIA, LEED AP, a principal at SmithGroup’s Washington, D.C., office, where he directs the firm’s sustainability initiatives. He is currently on the Advisory Group for the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) and also serves on the AIA 2030 Commitment Program Steering Committee. Mella has presented the AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects at the EcoBuild conference in Washington, D.C., every year since 2005 and co-chaired the AIA’s “Architecture of Sustainability” conference in 2006. Mella became immersed in sustainable design in 1998 as project architect for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s headquarters, the first recipient of a LEED Platinum rating.
