Affordably Green: Sustainable Housing Strategies for the Next Decade

Podcast: 2010/6/11 – 17:23

Presenter: Deane Evans, FAIA

In this podcast, we’ll talk about some proven, practical strategies and resources for developing affordable and sustainable housing for both single-family and multifamily residences.

With me is Deane Evans, FAIA, director of the Center for Building Knowledge at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Previously in private practice, his principal focus was on high-performance, sustainable buildings, particularly housing and schools. During that period, he created the Affordable Housing Design Advisor, a unique, electronic tool that provides step-by-step guidance for creating better-designed, affordable housing. In 1998, Deane served as the founding director of the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (or PATH), a public-private partnership housed at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Even earlier in his career, Deane put in a stint as the AIA’s vice president for research after having been a principal at Steven Winter Associates, a New York City architecture and engineering firm, where he concentrated on applying innovative technologies and systems to buildings, particularly housing.
