Renzo Piano’s first American project, the Menil Collection, is a masterpiece of natural lighting. And for good reason—the Menil is home to one of the world’s greatest privately-assembled collections of twentieth-century art, including painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, and photography.
Piano’s innovative, light-scooping rooftop “leaves” bathe the interior of the museum in soft natural light, while protecting the art—including paintings by Cézanne, Picasso, and Warhol amongst thousands of works—from direct sunlight.
