AIA Arizona Honors Recesses from the Sun

No architecture lasts without grappling with ways to give inhabitants shelter from the elements, but for desert architects, like the ones celebrated by AIA Arizona, shade from the sun is an all-consuming priority. The projects recognized here carve out comfortable space in the Sonoran Desert with over-hanging eaves that create pergola-like space, careful incisions that let the outside in, and with simple shaded platforms.
