This podcast features one of the recipients of the 2011 AIA Young Architect Award and one of the two recipients of the national Associates Award for 2011. We’ll talk about the initiatives that led to their awards and their thoughts on our profession.
One of this year’s recipients is Sara Beardsley, AIA, a senior architect at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Sara has lectured widely about issues related to the greening of existing buildings and reducing carbon emissions in urban areas. The Award jury highlighted Sara’s commitment to the study of energy use in existing buildings, and her work on the Willis Tower Greening & Modernization project.
Ernie Hutton, an Associate of AIA, has his own planning and development strategies firm, Hutton Associates Inc., in New York City. He is a 5-year member of the AIANY Board, co-chair of its Planning and Urban Design Committee, and co-chair of New York New Visions, a pro-bono collaboration of design professionals he helped organize following 9/11. His Associates Award jury called him “a cornerstone of the New York architectural community” who “has shaped cities, policies, and design standards through collaboration and leadership,” which “will impact future generations around the globe.”
