Michael Waldinger, Hon. AIA | Notes of Interest

Michael Waldinger’s service to the profession began with his recognition of the history of architecture in Illinois. Michael knows Illinois has always been a place where the profession of architecture can look to for leadership and inspiration. The great fire of 1871 began the rebuilding of an entire city and made Chicago the center of architectural aspirations, drawing new talent and requiring a higher degree of collaboration.

This rich past is the prologue for Michael Waldinger as Executive Vice President of AIA Illinois. Under Michael’s leadership during the past ten years, AIA Illinois has embraced the same three concepts that put the state on the architecture map in the first place: new approaches - coalition building – legislative action. Michael has built an internal infrastructure that reviews thousands of bills annually. AIA Illinois is always present at licensing board meetings, code development hearings, legislative and regulatory committees, and policy task forces.

Michael leads by example: He mentors others on how to maintain focus when navigating endless distractions and complexities; he helps his friends and colleagues gain strength and courage in times of adversity, stress and discord; and his selfless benevolence for the less fortunate, is extraordinary and contagious. He is a trusted partner, a strategic thinker, an innovator, and a great representative for architects all over the country.
