Young Architects Award

The Young Architects Award is given to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career.

Eligibility

Architect members of the AIA who have been licensed to practice architecture fewer than 10 years by the submission deadline are eligible to be nominated; the term young architect has no reference to the age of nominees. Any component, member of the national AIA Board of Directors, AIA knowledge community, or College of Fellows may nominate one or more individuals.

2015 Deadline & Entry Fee

The deadline for submission completion is October 3, 2014 before 5:00 PM Eastern.

All deadlines are strictly observed.

A non-refundable entry fee of $100.00 must be paid online.

Submission Preview

Carefully review the 2015 Young Architects Award Submission Preview before submitting your payment. You can go back and edit your submission until the deadline once you have started but no refunds will be issued for submissions that are disqualified, late or incomplete.

Submission Criteria

Candidates will be evaluated on how well they meet the program criteria which is to be uploaded as a single PDF file smaller than 10 MB in the order listed and not to exceed 25 pages:

1. A one-page nomination letter by any component, member of the national AIA Board of Directors, AIA knowledge community, or College of Fellows that summarizes the candidate's contributions.

2. A biography of the candidate, not to exceed two pages, including a list of offices, positions, honors, publications, and presentations that relate to the purpose of the award.

3. A statement of contributions not to exceed two pages that illustrates the effect of the candidate's work.

4. Exhibits (maximum of 15 pages) with images and/or drawings or other materials that best demonstrate the outstanding accomplishments made by the candidate including confirmation that the candidate was responsible for the projects listed. (Sample Declaration of Responsibility)

5. Five one-page letters of support that are explicit in their recommendation and contain specific reasons supporting the candidate's nomination (the one page letter is to be written on company letterhead and signed with either an original or electronic signature).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I have to start and finish my submission in one session?
No. You can start your submission and come back to finish it before the deadline date of 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

What if I want to make changes to my entry after I have completed my submission?
You can enter the system at any time to edit or update your submission before the deadline date prior to 5:00 pm, Eastern Time.

How will I know my submission has been received?
Upon submitting your entry, you will receive a confirmation e-mail message containing your submission details.

What should I do if I did not receive a confirmation e-mail containing my submission details?

First, check your junk mail folder – the most likely problem is that your spam filter sent the e-mail from HonorsAwards@aia.org to your junk mail. You should change your account settings to accept future e-mail from us. If it did not go into your junk mail folder, please contact HonorsAwards@aia.org for assistance.
