Justice Facilities Review (JFR)

The Justice Facilities Review offers the profession an indicator of proven strategies and the latest trends in the design and construction of justice facilities in the U.S. The jury chooses projects for publication that demonstrate quality of form, functionality, and current architectural responses to complex justice design issues.

The winning projects are featured throughout the year in the AAJ Journal and compiled into a print and digital publication each fall. Projects boards are displayed at the AIA National Convention and Exposition and at allied conferences including American Correctional Association, American Jail Association, and the National Association of Court Management.

The AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice is pleased to open the 2009 Justice Facilities Review. This year, we are for the first time using an online submission process, in order to foster greater environmental sustainability, as well as to facilitate the administrative process. As this is the first round of online submissions, we respectfully ask for your patience and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. The AIA staff contact for questions or concerns is aaj@aia.org.

Submission Requirements

    1. Submission of project information, images, drawings and diagrams is performed in an online process.

    2. Submission material shall maintain anonymity; your firm information will not be visible to the jury members. Any firm identification on photos, drawings, diagrams or other information will cause disqualification.

    3. Your project data will be entered into the required fields during the online process. Omission of relevant data with no explanation may lead to an entry's disqualification.

    6. The project can then be re-submitted as a built project when it is constructed.

    7. Each item uploaded, including photographs, must be smaller than 1 MB. Renderings may be substituted for required photographs if the project is incomplete.
