Guidelines for Selecting New AG Members
The HRC Advisory Group seeks new members on an annual basis. For reference, the guidelines for selection are provided year-around. AIA members who elect to join the AIA/HRC will receive e-mail notice for the 2010 call.
Assumptions
An HRC Advisory Group appointment is more than the usual board position. Persons selected to this group will automatically become chair in a specified period of time (maybe less). Therefore, it is especially desirable that appointees be already recognized as effective leaders in preservation architecture and be committed to a five-year term of activities on the Committee.
Requirements for Consideration
- Registered architect in good standing with registration boards and the American Institute of Architects.
- Commitment of a five-year term and the full realm of activities and responsibilities associated with that appointment.
- Primary Importance for Selection
- Is a historical architect actively involved in the preservation of historic buildings.
- Has held a position of upper level management (i.e. supervised personnel, prepared and managed budgets, made project decisions and set schedules.)
- Has demonstrated sustained, effective leadership in both professional practice and community service.
Secondary Importance for Selection
- Appointment would promote a balance in geographic representation.
- Appointment would provide for representation of both genders.
- Appointment would broaden racial participation.
- Appointment would broaden the professional perspective.
Other Considerations
- Has served on a committee, assisted with a conference, or performed well in some other service to the Historic Resources Committee.
- Has strong professional experience.
- Has good communication skills.
- Has experience with other preservation groups.
- Has lobbying experience on behalf of preservation.
- Has experience in a public or private preservation incentive program.
- Has juried preservation projects.
- Has made public presentations regarding preservation.
- Has professional preservation experience on a national basis.
- Has served as a reader for preservation grant program.
