The AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) and its Top Ten Green Projects awards program recognize the benefits of sustainable design and acknowledge architects as leaders in the creation of environmentally responsible design solutions. COTE encourages architects and their teams to submit projects for the Top Ten design competition. Now in its 16th year, the program is one of the best known
sustainable design recognition programs in the nation. Winning projects will be recognized with an AIA/COTE award certificate and acknowledged in the national press, on the AIA Web site, and at the AIA National Convention in Washington, DC May 17-19, 2012.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All architects licensed in the United States are eligible to submit entries, regardless of project size, budget, style, building type, or location. Entries are welcomed and encouraged from both established and new practitioners and designers and from small firms and large. New buildings and renovations/restorations are eligible. Projects must be built and completed after 2002 and at least three months prior to the submission deadline. "Completion" is synonymous with "substantial completion" as defined in the standard AIA documents governing construction. The entry is to be submitted by the architect.

The submitting architect may qualify as a member of a design team, whether or not serving as the head of the team. When one architect is not the sole author, all other participants contributing substantially to the design of the project must be given credit as part of the submission, regardless of professional discipline. Projects whose team includes jury members or any of their firms (see jury list below), even if the role was only an early consulting role, may not be submitted and if submitted will be disqualified. We encourage you to wait and submit the following year.
