      For immediate release:
      Washington, D.C. – May 4, 2011 –
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is the winner of the 2011 Webby Award in the Associations category for its AIA.org website.

The AIA won the honor from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences over more than 10,000 submissions. The Academy evaluates web sites based on six criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience.

Launched in July, 2010, AIA.org was developed with the voices and insights of many constituencies - AIA components, elected leadership, and members - all of whom spoke loud and clear about what they wanted and needed from their association's online resource. The AIA’s Web Strategy team solicited feedback through focus groups, meetings, and surveys both before and during the redesign process while AIA leadership met with members and staff from almost 50 components.

''I'm gratified and proud that the institute is recognized for its ability to reach people,’’ said AIA EVP/Chief Executive Officer Robert Ivy, FAIA. “The site was not designed in a vacuum. It was a participatory design process. The fact that the site is so good, so useful, so accessible - and it looks good and works well - is the real proof of its value. We competed in the company of some of the best professions in the business and we beat them.”

Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, interactive advertising & media, online film & video, and mobile & apps.

Established in 1996, the 15th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.
