In 2003, the AIA National Associates Committee and ArchVoices launched the 2003 Internship & Career Survey, a unique effort to document the recent history and present state of architectural internship and registration. Between March 24 and April 7, 2003, this special web-based survey was distributed to 23,000 young professionals by invitation.

This survey was developed in order to better inform the profession's understanding of this important period in the lifelong professional development of architects.

Appendix C1 and C2 include a total of 306 individual comments on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), Architect Registration Examination (ARE), Intern Development Program (IDP), general licensure issues, and issues affecting foreign-education and -trained architects.
