Ashley Clark, Assoc. AIA
, is the Proposal and Marketing Manager for LandDesign, Inc., an award-winning urban design, planning, branding, civil engineering, and landscape architecture firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her education in architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte informed her talent in communication design, and she capitalized on those skills during the recession to find herself in her current position.

Ashley’s architectural leadership experience began when she was the 2003 Chapter President for the American Institute of Architecture Students at UNC Charlotte as well as the local AIA Board Student Liaison. She was then elected as the 2004-05 South Quadrant Director on the AIAS National Board. In 2008 she joined the AIA North Carolina Board as the Associate Director for a two-year term, which overlapped her appointment to the AIA National Associates Committee as the South Atlantic Region Associate Director in 2009. She is currently serving as the 2011 Chair of the NAC and will serve as the 2012 National Associate Director and the 2013 Associate Representative to the AIA Executive Committee. Ashley’s commitment to the AIA is driven by the desire to help the architects of today recognize the diverse talent and ambitions of the architects of tomorrow.

Jonathan Taylor, AIA, LEED AP
, is a graduate from Syracuse University (2000). Jonathan received a BArch with a minor in architecture history. While at Syracuse, he was actively engaged in the University Senate, Student Government, and was a founding member of the Syracuse Community Design Center.

Jonathan worked for George Hodosh Architects (New City, New York) and Gorman Richardson Architects (Hopkinton, Massachusetts) before joining Goody Clancy. Jonathan is licensed to practice architecture in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island; he is NCARB certified and is LEED accredited. Jonathan has been a member of the AIA and Boston Society of Architects/AIA since 2000, and has served as the Intern Development Program state coordinator for Massachusetts since 2002. Jonathan has been a member of the National Associates Committee since 2006; as the AIA New England Regional Associate Director (2006-2008), as the Community and Communications Director (2008), and NAC Committee Chair (2009).

Jonathan was a member of the AIA Education Committee (2009-2010), and is currently on the joint AIA/NCARB Intern Development Program Advisory Committee (2008-2011).

Wayne Mortensen, Assoc. AIA
, NASW, holds an undergraduate degree as well as a Masters in Architecture, Urban Design and Social Work from Washington University. Wayne served as the 20—AIAS National President and worked from the organization’s headquarters in Washington, DC. He was responsible for the organization’s national agenda and student advocacy efforts. His involvement with the AIAS continues today on the Freedom by Design Advisory Council—a program that he helped implement that trains design students to assist low-income and disabled community members through simple design and construction solutions for modifications in their homes.

In addition to spending time with his wife, Jennifer, Wayne has a passion for exploration of the built environment that facilitates the creation of bridging social capitol and civic engagement. His professional aspirations are distinctively “alternative” and include teaching, research and socially-oriented practice. He is hopeful that evidence-based practice will “save the profession.”

Clarice Sollog, Assoc. AIA
, LEED AP BD+C, is an intern architect with the Maitland, Florida, office of CDM; a global, full-service consulting, engineering, construction,
and operations firm. She assists project architects throughout design and construction for a variety of project types and clients. She has played an integral part in the office’s pursuit of sustainable projects and is LEED Administrator on six LEED projects, including an Administration and Visitors Center for a Waste to Energy Facility pursuing LEED Platinum.

After relocating to Florida, she joined the AIA as an Associate Member in January of 2007, recognizing the importance of the organization’s role in the profession. As an active participant in her local Orlando Chapter, she helped establish the Committee on the Environment (COTE) and participates in the activities of the YAF group.

Clarice is currently serving as the Community and Communications Portfolio Director of the NAC and also serves as the NAC representative on the AIA Strategic Direction Group (SDG). In addition to her involvement in the AIA, she is active within the USGBC Central Florida Chapter, holding leadership positions at both the local and regional level.

Clarice graduated from Virginia Tech in 2004 with a Bachelor of Architecture and a minor in German. While in school she had the opportunity to live in Berlin, Germany, and work for Chestnutt_Niess Architekten as part of a co-op program. She is nearing completion of IDP and has started taking the ARE.

   
 

Tu-Anh Bui, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP

Tu-Anh Bui, Assoc. AIA
, LEED AP, is currently working as a designer at LHB, Inc. Her focus is on designing and developing sustainable, affordable homes in Minnesota. Her career mission is to be “socially responsive” and help to alleviate homelessness while promoting decent homes for all. Her most recent project, two student residences for Carleton College, is attempting LEED® Gold certification.

Born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, Bui immigrated with her family to the United States in 1990. She has a Master of Architecture degree and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. Throughout graduate school, she participated in AIA-Minnesota's Search for Shelter Charrette program which assists non-profit housing agencies’ design project boards to raise awareness and funds. Tu-Anh joined the AIA in 2003, and in 2005, became co-chair of the AIA-MN Housing Advocacy Committee.

In addition to her involvement with AIA Minnesota, Tu-Anh has been a member of Architecture for Humanity’s Minnesota chapter since 2005. With AFH-MN, she collaborated in the design of a community building in Sri Lanka, a school in Uganda, and homeless lockers in Minneapolis. In 2008, Bui was selected as the AIA Regional Associate Director to the National Associates Committee. At the 2010 AIA Convention, Bui was elected as the Knowledge & Programming Director for the NAC. Her main mission in this position is to revive the AIA’s Legacy project with volunteering opportunities for Associate members.

Kevin A. Fitzgerald, AIA, PMP
, has over ten years experience as a practicing architect. Prior to joining AIA National, Mr. Fitzgerald was an Associate at Robert A.M. Stern Architects in New York, where he worked as a project manager, staff coordinator and team leader on a variety of building and planning projects. For the past six years he has been mentoring interns and teaching seminars on the Intern Development Program and Architect Registration Exam.

 As Director for Emerging Professionals at AIA National Mr. Fitzgerald works with the Young Architects Forum, the National Associates Committee, the American Institute of Architects Students, AIA components and collateral organizations to advance emerging professionals issues and initiatives. He is also developing the AIA’s new Center for Emerging Professionals.

Laura Meador, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP,
is the 2011-2012 National Vice President of the American Institute of Architecture Students. A graduate of Louisiana State University, her leadership involvement started early in school through professional outreach to her community as President of both her AIAS Chapter and College of Art and Design. After serving as South Quadrant Director in 2010-2011, she was elected Vice President.

As Vice President, Laura focuses on educational issues as they pertain to emerging professionals by serving on the ACSA Board of Directors as the AIAS Liaison. She also works with the Intern Development Program Advisory Council to gear the program toward relevant material that inspires students to pursue licensure. As a member of the Council for Emerging Professionals, Laura works on behalf of the AIAS with the NAC and YAF to strengthen the successful progression of a student into licensure.
