These web links provide information on the design and construction elements, including those for security, incorporated into U.S. Government projects.

Guidelines to Protect Ventilation Systems (PDF)
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released guidelines for protecting ventilation systems in commercial and government buildings from chemical, biological and radiological attack . The document (NIOSH Publication No. 2002-139) offers recommendations on the physical security of ventilation systems, airflow and filtration, systems maintenance, program administration, and maintenance staff training. The guidelines were prepared by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (under HHS’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) with input and review by the Office of Homeland Security Interagency Workgroup on Building Air Protection and more than 30 federal agencies, state and local organizations, and professional associations, including the AIA.
